One of the most popular activities is the world's second largest underground lake in a cave
with a public walking tour and boat ride. It's 25 minutes from OUAT. There are two options: the 1 hr
walking tour and the 3 hour daytime wild tour which includes the public tour, boat ride, and two additional
hours exploring the cave. Check their website for cost, scheduling, what to wear, etc. www.thelostsea.com
The next most
popular activity. You drive right to the spectacular falls (115' tall) and you can hike up to the top of the falls and beyond on a 5-mile trail (not a loop). The Rope Swing on Citico Creek is on your way home to OUAT. If you get an early enough start, you can do both the Lost Sea and Bald River Falls in one day.
An 11-mile driving loop through the first settlement in the Smokies with interpretive stops along the way at historic cabins, churches, barns, gristmill, cemeteries. There's also a 6-mile roundtrip hiking trail to Abrams Falls along the route.
Class II rapids, we recommend Brookside Rafting, 1-800-848-7238 or 1-828-321-5209, www.brooksiderafting.com. Advance reservations needed.
There are many great hiking trails nearby. We can recommend easy, moderate, or strenuous trails.
- Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, a 2 mile easy loop trail to see BIG trees. It takes six people to get their arms around some of them.
- Huckleberry Bald Hike, a 3-mile roundtrip easy hike to the top of a mountain on 5,367 ft. Huckleberry Bald, with 360 degree views
